SEPA Synod's South Dakota Servant Trip

The registration cost is $925 per person.  This includes transportation, food, lodging and program expenses.  It does not include the cost of luggage fees which we are estimating to be $40-$50.

We will be traveling to Rapid City, South Dakota by airplane. The group will spend some time in Rapid City seeing sites like Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park, continuing with group building and doing additional learning around Native American culture. While in Rapid City we will be sleeping at a local congregation (on the floor). We will journey to the Rosebud reservation on Sunday, July 3th. We will be doing hands on work projects and running a day camp for local children. We will travel to the reservations by mini vans.  All adults that register for the servant trip will be expected to share in the driving throughout portions of the trip. Explicit directions will be given.
 
Coinciding with this trip there will be a young adult portion that will spend the week at Milks Camp.  Young adults – those post high school, but not yet 25 years old. Young adults interested in joining us on the servant trip are asked to fill out the registration form specifying they are a young adult and send it in by November 1, 2015.  Priority is first come first serve since there is a limited number of spots available for young
adults.

Four “extra adult” spots are reserved for skilled laborers.  These adults do not count against the congregation’s adult limit, for more information and to apply for these spots please email Tammy and Adrienne.

There are several pre-trip requirements that all participants need to fulfill.  Please make sure that all your participants are aware of these requirements.

  • Pre-trip events: There will betwo pre-trip meetings: Sunday, January 10, 2016, 2:00-4:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 12, 2016, 2:00-5:00 p.m. Parents/guardians are asked to attend the June meeting.
  • Payments: A $150 non-refundable deposit perperson is due once your registration has been confirmed.  Another $300 per person is due December 1, 2015 and the remainder of the fee is due May 1, 2016.  Please send one check from your congregation for the entire amount when each payment is due.
  • We will be constructing a trip covenant.  Every adult and youth will be expected to follow this.  One item it will include is no tobacco or alcohol, so please make sure your youth and adults know this before signing on for South Dakota!

We are planning an optional but strongly encouraged visit the American Indian Museum in Washington, D.C. on March 13, 2016. This is a beautiful museum and an excellent introduction to a variety of American Indian cultures. The cost of this trip is tentatively $35 plus money for lunch. Specific details will be provided, but we are planning on leaving from St. Peter’s in North Wales about 7:00 a.m. and will return in the late afternoon. Final confirmation of your participation in this trip will be needed by our January pre-trip meeting. Scholarships are available for the museum visit. We STRONGLY encourage you to participate in this chance to learn about American Indian culture before we journey to South Dakota.

Registration for the South Dakota servant trip  closes December 1 or when the trip is full.  Space is limited and filled on a first come, first serve basis. The last four South Dakota Servant Trips filled within days, so get your team together now!!
